OUR STORY · KUALA LUMPUR
A Studio Built
for Slow Learning
Modelcraft started from a straightforward observation: most AI education moves too quickly through material that rewards careful thought.

Where Modelcraft Came From
Modelcraft grew out of conversations between practitioners and educators in Kuala Lumpur who kept running into the same problem: people wanted to understand AI — not just use it — but the available material was either too shallow or assumed a software engineering background.
The studio was established to fill that gap. The name comes from the idea of working with models carefully, the way a craftsperson works with a material: getting to know its properties, its limits, and its possibilities through steady practice rather than shortcuts.
We opened with a small reader series and a handful of participants. The cohort programmes followed when it became clear that some people wanted a more structured conversation around the material.
MISSION & VALUES
What Guides Our Work
Clarity over speed
We slow down at the parts that matter and spend time explaining ideas that are usually glossed over.
Written thinking
Reading and writing are the core practice here. We believe putting ideas on paper reveals what you do and don't understand.
Honest scope
We are clear about what the programmes are and what they are not. No inflated promises about what any learning experience can deliver.

TEAM
The Studio Team
A small group of people who care about how AI concepts are taught and discussed.
Rania Zulkifli
Programme Director
Shapes the curriculum and the overall tone of the studio. Spent several years teaching research methods before turning attention to AI literacy.
Faizal Ibrahim
Studio Facilitator
Leads the cohort sessions and handles written feedback on submitted exercises. Background in technical writing and applied linguistics.
Nurul Chong
Reader Series Editor
Writes and edits the margin annotations in the reader modules. Works carefully on the language of explanation, not just the content.

STANDARDS & APPROACH
How We Maintain Quality
A set of quiet commitments that shape how the studio operates from day to day.
Reviewed Written Feedback
All submitted exercises receive written responses from a facilitator. Feedback is read by a second team member before it is sent.
Regular Material Review
Reader modules and session materials are reviewed at least once every six months. AI moves quickly; the reading should stay current.
Intentional Cohort Sizes
We cap cohort enrolment deliberately. A cohort that is too large stops functioning as a cohort. Quality of engagement matters more than volume.
Participant Privacy
Personal information and submitted work are handled with care. We do not share participant data with third parties for commercial purposes.
Clear Programme Scope
Every programme page describes what is and is not included. We do not describe our programmes as formal qualifications — they are educational offerings.
Accessible Enquiry Process
Anyone considering enrolment can write to us first. We read questions before taking fees, and we will say honestly if a programme is not the right fit.

EXPERTISE & CONTEXT
AI Education in Malaysia
The conversation around AI in Malaysia has grown quickly over the past few years. Organisations across sectors — finance, logistics, healthcare, public service — are thinking about what it means to work alongside AI systems. Modelcraft was built to serve the people in those organisations who want a considered understanding, not just a headline summary.
The studio works at the level of concepts and practice. This means explaining what language models actually do, what the vocabulary of machine learning refers to, and how AI systems are built and evaluated. It also means giving participants time to work with these ideas through structured exercises rather than passive video consumption.
Kuala Lumpur is well placed for this kind of work. The city has a mix of industries, a strong tradition of English-language reading, and a growing community of people who are genuinely curious about AI rather than simply reacting to it. Modelcraft tries to serve that curiosity seriously.
The programmes are educational in scope. They are not vocational qualifications and they do not carry formal accreditation. What they offer is structured exposure to ideas, guided practice, and the opportunity to develop a more grounded understanding of a field that can otherwise feel opaque.
